Summer 2001
So we went to France after Belgium. We flew into Bordeaux, then drove about 90 mins to Duras. We had rented a house there (top left) which had a pool and a dog, Pip (top right). He could get a little too happy to see us for Emma's liking, but he was sweet. We loved to visit the local markets in Duras. We saw the same band (left) in several. There happened to be some school kids around, so Emma joined in the clapping. Emma decided to try on some hats while there. She knew that the one she tried on was too small, but she got a kick out of trying it on anyway. Besides Duras, we went to a number local marches. The picture below was from our favorite in a town called Eymet.
Not far from our house, we found a small town that had a church with Fresco's on the walls (bottom right). Besides that, it had the best picnic spot that we found anywhere. We had to fight off the local contractors for it. It was beside a river and a weir, down from a quiet street (top left). Emma took to relaxing very quickly! (top right). We also climbed up to the top of Castle Duras (bottom left) FUN!
We went on a day trip to Arcachon, and then on to the great dunes South West of the town. While in town, we made a visit to the beach and had lunch (left). Then we climbed up the dune (bottom left). Emma made it all the way up by herself (except for the last 60 steps that her mom carried her). Running down was much faster and easier. There was plenty of activity at the top too (bottom right).
